Book two in the homeschooling series "Wright on Time" has been released and the focus is on Utah, paleontology and hieroglyphics, just to name some of the subjects kids will learn about this time.
Homeschooling mother Lisa M. Cottrell-Bentley writes the series, which follows a homeschooling family as they visit each of 50 states (one per book). Along the way they learn about different subjects and also work at unraveling a mystery about a strange device they find in book one.
Cottrell-Bentley sent me a review copy and our family read the book as a read-aloud.
All three of my older kids (ages 6, 10 and 11) enjoyed the book, though I would say it's best suited for younger kids (such as early elementary).
In this edition, the Wright Family visits a dinosaur dig and learns quite a lot about how excavations take place. They also work harder at figuring out what that mysterious device is that they found in the cave in book one (Arizona). The device randomly glows and shows different symbols at different times.
Aidan (a seven-year-old boy) concentrates most of his attention on the dinosaurs and learning how to take part in the dig, while Nadia (his eleven-year-old sister) focuses on trying to decipher the glyphs on the mysterious device. Both kids have the help of their parents and scientist friends who are experts in those fields, and readers learn a lot along with them.
Many other subjects are touched on along the way, too, from electric cars to ancient cultures. Of course, readers learn about the state of Utah along the way, too.
We enjoyed this book. Our curiosity was really piqued by the mysterious device, and we all are anxious to find out more about it. I like the fact that the kids happily befriend adults and love to learn, much like most homeschooled children I know.
The book is a quick read. It will work well for independent reading or as a read-aloud.
Minnesota will be featured in book five, due out next year.

I'm so interested in this series, but I just can't justify spending 12.99 on such a short book. I've put a request in at my local library, just waiting now.
Thanks for the review, Alicia. Love reading your honest evaluations.
