To celebrate the upcoming release of the children's book No T.Rex in the Library, author Toni Buzzeo is conducting a writing contest for PreK to sixth graders.
Adults are asked to show kids the title and cover of the book and ask students to write a story telling what happened to get Tess onto that dinosaur and what happens next. A poster of the cover art can be viewed and printed online here.
Stories should be 50-750 words and based exclusively on the cover image of the book.
Groups of children may work together to write a group-composed story or stories may be individual, but there is a limit of one entry per group or class. Entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 12, 2010. Submissions may also be scanned and emailed with the accompanying contest submission form by e-mail to kencyll@tonibuzzeo.com.
The book, which will debut in late February, is described as:
When Tess misbehaves at the library, Mommy puts her in the time out chair, promising to return for her in 10 minutes. But Mommy doesn't count on Tess tipping over her chair, or the chair tipping over the book cart, or the dinosaur book falling open. And what else can Tess do when she sees that dinosaur claw reaching up from the page? Join Tess on a library romp on board the back of a T. Rex. She proves, beyond a doubt, that you can find ANY kind of adventure in your library books!
Prizes include ten hardcover autographed copies of the book. The grand prize is a free half hour Skype visit with the author.
The contest is open to all librarians (school and public) and all teachers/students (public, private, independent, and homeschool).
Author Toni Buzzeo will judge all submissions. The top ten stories will earn those ten submitting librarians or teachers an autographed hardcover copy of the book. The grand prize will be awarded to the top story of these ten. That submitting librarian or teacher will also win a free half-hour Skype visit with Toni Buzzeo.

This looks right up our alley, Alicia. I've emailed the author to clarify if it is open to Canadian residents as well. It doesn't say anything in the rules at all.
Ms. Buzzeo responded to me promptly and welcomes submissions from Canadians. Yippee!
