Newspapers in Education (NIE) offers a wealth of resources for homeschooling families in Minnesota and around the country.  The site is sponsored by regional newspapers and is available for all teachers, including homeschool teachers.

In Minnesota, NIE operates through the St. Paul Pioneer Press and teachers can access the Pioneer Press online for free.

The NIE site explains:

Newspapers in Education is a cooperative effort of newspapers working with local schools to encourage the use of the newspaper as a tool for instruction and to promote literacy. Under the program, the Pioneer Press sponsors newspapers for teachers to use in their classrooms. NIE teachers also receive curriculum ideas, teaching materials, special supplements, newsletters, training opportunities and more.

NIE subscriptions include other free educational content, such as online lessons, political cartoons, MCA practice tests in math and reading for grades three through eleven, educational videos, activity sheets, headlines around the world (with a speech tool that can read the stories aloud), educational links and more.
