The bad news is that Punxsutawney Phil has reportedly determined today that there will be six more weeks of winter. The good news is that here in Southern Minnesota, we all knew that anyway and it's still an excuse to have some groundhog fun today.
Here's an assortment of fun links around the web to use Groundhog Day to teach the kids.
First is the official site of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, where you can send Groundhog e-cards, view the Gobbler's Knob festivities from the web and more.
Next, Yahoo has an article up with the history and habitat of Punxsutawney Phil. Learn where he lives the rest of the year, what he eats, how long groundhogs live and more.
Here's a groundhog to color and cut out to make a groundhog hat for the kids.
Education World has lots of lesson plans and games in honor of today, including groundhog tag, a word search, a graphing activity and groundhog day songs.
Kinderteacher has a printable groundhog maze.
Crayola has a coloring page that talks about the folklore of the holiday.
Finally, DLTK has a groundhog toilet paper roll craft, related history from around the world, a song, coloring pages and more.
