iHomeEducator is offering their preschool and kindergarten math application MathSpinK free for download for now through the end of December. The program works on wireless devices like iPods and iPhones.
MathSpinK focuses mainly on counting, through four games children can play. The games involve interactive spinners and pictures of trains, princesses, painted hands and the 12 days of Christmas. Children will learn to count with fingers, princess accessories, train cars and the 12 days of Christmas.
Eleven year old Abby writes on the family's blog:
"You might think I am too old for this app, but you know what, it is just perfect for siblings. My brother and sister love this app because it has their favorite things in it like, trains and princesses. My sister was actually the one who designed the princess one, so of course she likes it. My little brother picked the colors of the steam train engine and where the family members are sitting. I'm the one speaking in the 12 days of Christmas, my sister is speaking in the painted hands and princess game, and my younger brother is speaking in the train game."
iHomeEducator offers other applications for older kids, as well. MathSpin1 teaches Mayan and Chinese numbers with addition and subtraction, for instance. See their web site for more information.
