Last month's picture story starters were a big hit with some readers, so here's another batch to use with your kids for creative writing.
There are 20 photographs from the news this past month for the kids to write about. See which one appeals to them and ask questions to help get them started, if necessary, such as:
How do the elephants help Haiti?
Why does the cat ride on the man's head?
Is the hippo the man's friend? What's going to happen next?
Why is this man carrying a giant purple ear?
What's the name of the little dog in the miniature street car, and what is his story?
One of the pictures has to do with Minnesota. Can the kids guess which one?
As always, feel free to email your children's stories to me and I'll post them here. Please include your child's first name, age and city.
Children don't have to stick to short stories, either. Encourage them to think about other forms of creative writing they could use with the photographs. They could write poems, make up news reports, create wacky advertisements or write fiction in a certain style (such as drama, comedy or mystery).
