Every month Pinnacle Mountain State Park in Little Rock, Arkansas has a program called Homeschool Days. These programs are geared toward homeschool families and cover a variety of subjects. Homeschool Days are normally are free of charge. Space is limited and classes fill up quickly.
On February 26, Park Interpreter Kristina will spend the afternoon teaching homeschoolers from the Little Rock area about basic outdoor survival skills. Homeschool students will learn about what it takes to stay safe outdoors while hiking and camping. Survival skills are important for those students who like to venture into the outdoors. Something simple like an afternoon hike could turn to tragedy if you go off the trail or lose your bearings.
Sturdy shoes such as hiking boots or trail shoes are recommended. Be prepared to hike off-trail. Dress in layers and check the weather prior to heading out. Bring drinking water, a camera, and a snack. The program runs from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm. There is no charge for this program but registration is required.
Pinnacle Mountain State Park's website does not indicate an age range for this activity. The program includes off-trail hiking which is not stroller friendly. Contact the park office for handicap accessibility or if you have a student with special needs.
