You may not have heard of a relatively new resource that can be very valuable to your homeschool. WILBOR is a digital branch of your local library. The service is provided by the cooperative efforts of dozens of Iowa libraries. For a list of these libraries go to the participating libraries link.
The service is a database with thousands of audiobooks that can be downloaded to your computer and enjoyed in the comfort of your home. . You borrow the book the same way you do at the library by using your library card number and requesting the title you are interested in. Sometimes there is a waiting list that will require you to wait a little while before you can download your book. They send you an email when your book is available. Some of the titles can be burned to CD to use during the time you have the book checked out which allows you to listen to your selection in any CD player including your car. Many of the titles are also iPOD compatible
The variety of titles to choose from is much like what you would find on the shelves of your library. There are adult fiction and non-fiction titles and a nice selection of children's books as well. This great resource allows you to sign books out, listen to them and then return them without ever leaving your home. It's another great way that your public library is helping you homeschool.
