In a report issued today by the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), homeschoolers in New Hampshire have been given a ray of hope. Hope that can be directly attributed to "grassroots activism."
New Hampshire’s homeschool law is already one of the most restrictive in the country and officials this year have been attempting to make it even tougher.
However on November 19th, the NH House Education Committee recommended killing two bills intended to increase unnecessary and intrusive homeschool regulation.
Does this mean NH homeschooler’s will be left alone? Not necessarily, according to HSLDA, however it is a ray of hope that shines through a year of struggle.
“New Hampshire’s law already requires an annual notice of intent and annual assessments—more than most other states,” said HSLDA Staff Attorney Michael Donnelly. “Studies have shown that there is no correlation between regulation and performance. Homeschoolers outperform their public and private school peers on standardized measures of academic performance time and again. We hope that the New Hampshire legislature will leave these dedicated parents alone for good.” (HSLDA)
HSLDA attributes this victory to the many homeschoolers and homeschool organizations for their “grassroots activism.” What can other homeschoolers take away from this victory? Know that our voices do make a difference and that we must continue to be actively present within our respective states.

Good Information. Really shows that the "grassroots activism" can get results!
We are going to need lots more of this!
That's so cool! I am so frustrated with people thinking homeschooling is somehow less of an education! Amazing what GRASSROOTS can do! GO HOMESCHOOLERS!
Great news!
Hats off to families who homeschool.
Exercising school choice is not always popular mainstream, but a parent who acts for the best of their children knows what really matters.
I sure hope New Hampshire is starting a new trend toward creating a school choice friendly atmosphere. NH also ranks as the 12th weakest state charter school law which has been given a D grade.
Thanks for a great article, Lynda.
Congratulations from California, where we had our legal battle last year! Victories like this show how a decentralized, but networked community, can organize to defeat onerous government policies.
Good article. Thanks for keeping us abreast of these developments.
