Enrollment is easy, requiring only membership in a Google group determined by the students' start date.
Purporting to be be thorough in content, this program is designed to last about 2 years. If a homeschooler finds they have gaps in their education or have gotten behind and are feeling discouraged, this project may be just the remedy.
On the home page is a video entitled "GED to PhD?" Students who are unwilling or unable to follow a traditional high school track that leads to SAT testing and admission into a four-year university will find that indeed there is more than one way to establish credibility and gain acceptance into the post-secondary program of their choice. Transitioning from the acquisition of GED to the local community college (Austin Community College) and then transferring to a four year university is one alternative route.
So, what's the catch? There is none, really. Well, okay, there is one. Each student is required to take responsibility for his or her own learning. This program is open to anyone seeking to improve their odds of success through education. The web site's FAQ page plainly states that there is no teacher nagging participants to do their assignments. There are no guarantees that students will pass the GED. There are no grades. However, there is an implied promise that students who apply themselves assiduously to their studies, which have been conveniently compiled by the visionary and generous folks at Free-Ed.net, will reap what they sow.
