NBC Nightly News, the Brian Williams softball, the Obama non-answer and blame on the New Media

Brian Williams on an NBC Nightly News interview with President Obama "asks" the question:

"...you're an American-born Christian...significant numbers of Americans in polls, upwards of a fifth of respondents are claiming you are neither.”

The question: “This has to be troubling to you. This is, of course, all-new territory for an American President.”

Now as mainstream media questions go, this was ans non-question a question as has ever been asked. It was more of a softball lobbed at a major league baseball hitter which merely provided an open ended opportunity for the President to hit some home run quality fluff.

If one were suspicious or cynical it could even be imagined that the questions were screened with the White House in advance of the interview.

In any event, it provided opportunity for the President to evade answering while placing the blame for the questions regarding his faith and citizenship at the doorstep of the "New Media", aka the media that actually seeks to find the truth and that asks the tough questions.

As for the interviewing acumen of Brian Williams, when questions were not answered directly or even indirectly, there was no follow-up seeking to pin the President down.

The Obama Answers

“The facts are the facts,” - And what exactly are the facts?

The cause of the public confusion is of course - “a network of misinformation that in a new media era can get churned out there constantly.”

The Obama solution to the uncertainty which does not include addressing them - “I’m not gonna be worrying too much about whatever rumors are floating on out there,”

A huge bonus for the country if he did decide to spend some time answering - “If I spend all my time chasing after that, then I wouldn’t get much done.”

Finally on the question of citizenship - “I can’t spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.”

If anyone can help me with finding some answers in here it would be greatly appreciated.

I never did follow the birther story. As far as I know, the issue involved a technicality involving dual citizenship of one of his parents, but of course the media never looked into it. (Actually, they may have and didn't like what they found, since they've all staked their reputations on this guy.)

The NBC networks are the very worst. They've become the propaganda arm of this president, and it's really no surprise when you recognize the multinational corporate interests of G.E. (NBC's parent company) was the benefactor in health care reform, banking, and a big player in the military/industrial complex.

I find it INSULTING that the NBC players have insulted the intelligence of most Americans. Anybody with a second digit in their IQ would have made these connections, and the network's ratings alone bear this out. What few viewers they do have is folks like me just to see what lies they'll produce that evening, and naturally the left winge fringe-dwellers, who represent 15-19% of the people.

The careers of these pseudo-journalists are over in reality, so they might as well make the best of their little stint with G.E.

Is it any wonder so many of us now seek out alternative news sources?

I should add that, whether or not one questions his eligibility for the office, his background shows that he's lived in other countries in his early years, and doesn't share the same devotion and loyalty to the United States as we would expect from our president.

    And it shows.
