Quick Friday tip - FREE Secunia software for computer security

QuickTime can need patches (Adobe Software)

Is it easy to find and install security patches for all the software on your PC - laptop or desktop computer? That update security patch chore is more annoying than keeping dust off the coffee table. Some simple software, SecuniaPSI, does the job with a quick download and install and a quick scan.

I downloaded SecuniaPSI - it took less than ten seconds. It self installs, and by the way, it's FREE software.

After installing and opening Secunia, I simply touched a run scan button and watched progress for less than a minute. While I've heard some people finding a hundred security leaks in their system after running the scan, I got lucky. There were three patches needed. All, by the way, were for Adobe products.

Adobe software, in various iterations is something you and I both use a lot. QuickTime player is ubiquitous. Acrobat Reader is unavoidable with all the pdf files floating around. Even if you run the auto update for Adobe, which I do, don't be surprised if you need a patch or two.

Run the scan. Read the list of required updates and click the little blue download buttons for each update, one at a time. The downloads come directly from the manufacturers of the software needing patches. There's no spyware or malware in Secunia.

This weekend, maybe when you're watching Desperate Housewives, or after a family outing to Navy Pier for the last of the Flower and Garden Show , you might download this little program and give it a shot.

This isn't the San Francisco Examiner, is it? (a newspaper, rival to the Chronicle) I've got Norton 360 & think my Security is all right; but my CD-ROM drive has stopped working--it won't read any disks and the D: drive doesn't exist. I've tried everything--diagnostics, searches (page after page of useless junk), µsoft support (useless; Chat quit for no reason) and can't find the allegedly missing driver (QSI SCR-242). Any help would be appreciated.
