Creating an ideal home office

When working from home, an ideal home office is the main control area where all the work gets done. It needs to be a productive space that helps you create and work. It shouldn't hinder your capabilities by being distractive, uncomfortable, or cluttered. A home office should get someone excited about working, yet still have the simplicity and comfortable aspect that you were looking for when you decided to work from home.

There are some simple tasks and suggestion to creating your ideal home office. This way, you get your mind ready to work, while having everything accessible at your fingertips.

A sturdy desk and a comfortable chair are essentials in your home office. Your desk should be able to support a computer, printer and scanner, a telephone, and a notebook, without cracking at the legs. The desk should also be large enough that you can place everything you'd need right in front of you. With a home based business, a comfortable chair is one of the biggest essentials you can invest in. Look for one that supports your back, swivels, and has arm rests.

Lighting is important in a home office because it sets the mood for your workspace. When you have appropriate lighting, you'll be able to focus more on the work in front of you. Along with the central light in your office, add a standing lamp by your desk, face an open window, or add an extra desk lamp. Natural lighting is going to be your best choice, so facing an open window, or making sure the light hits your desk, is a great tip to having a productive home office.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to avoid drawers. Drawers, no matter how useful they seem, will most liketly end up being used to hold junk and loose items. To hold items like pens, paper clips, and rubber bands, purchase a small little desk organizer to put on the corner of your desk. It's less likely to turn into the junk drawer.

Going paperless helps limit clutter and subtracting distraction. Going paperless involves keeping all of your documents on your computer or on an internet file system like Evernote or Google Docs. Keeping a scanner handy, allows you to scan files and papers and keep them on your database. Having one small filing cabintet at your reach will keep you efficient, but to limit clutter, keep most of your documents digital.

Creating a minimal layout and keeping important items at reach is the best way to create an ideal home office that not only keeps you productive, but makes you excited to work and create while you are working from home. When running a home based business, your home office is the central location of your business, and it should reflect that.
