Beer for beauty and vodka for vomit: Alternative uses for alcohol

If you’re over the legal drinking age, you can enter the world of beauty secrets known only to alcohol savvy New Yorkers.

As if we needed more reasons to love lager, here are some alternative uses for beer to cure many of your ale-ments.

                      Beer

Dandruff- A beer rinse can help reduce dandruff as well as give your hair a beautiful shine. Shampoo, then apply the beer to your hair before rinsing. You can also use beer as a hair highlighter. Spray some beer onto your hair, then lay out in the sun. Don’t overuse or you may dry out your hair.
Flavoring- Put some beer in your chili mix, stew, or use beer as a marinade. The beer will also help tenderize your steak. The darker beers will add a stronger flavor as opposed to the lighter varieties.
Slug slayer- Slugs in your garden? Simply fill plates and jars with beer, then bury them with the rim at ground level. Apparently slugs love beer. Stopping by for a sip, they’ll fall in but won’t be able to get out.
Wood cleaner- Use leftover flat beer to clean wood and to help bring out the grain pattern. Pour some beer onto a microfiber cloth, then rub gently onto your furniture. Remember, because of the many types of furniture finishes always try furniture products on an inconspicuous area before applying to table tops, etc.
Insect control- Before your next outdoor party or barbecue, place a few plates and open jars of beer around the perimeter. The beer will attract bees and the like, diverting them from your main event.

                                       Vodka

Forget your vodka and tonic or vodka and cranberry juice. How about vodka and shampoo?

Shampoo and vodka- Adding a shot of vodka into your shampoo helps to deep clean your hair by removing toxins and oily buildup.
Bandage removal- If you’re a bandage-removal coward, saturate the bandage with vodka. The vodka acts as a solvent to remove the adhesive, making for a smooth removal. Make sure to not get the vodka into the wound. You can use the same technique to remove bumper sticker adhesive from your car.
Vomit eraser- Pour some vodka into a spray bottle, spray onto a vomit stain, scrub with a brush and blot dry.
Black eye and bruise soother- Mix equal parts of vodka with water into a freezer bag, freeze, then hold against a bruise or black eye. The vodka will act as an anti-freeze so that the water will only partially freeze, allowing the bag to mold against the affected area.
Toothache pain reliever- Put a small amount of vodka into a shot glass, sip and swirl around your aching tooth for temporary relief.

If all else fails, have some beer or vodka in the traditional way. This method may not work as well as the above suggestions, but with enough applications, you may not care.

Terrific article! I remember cooking an English roast by placing it in a 9x13 pan and adding a can of beer. Maybe there was some onion and salt. Tasted great.

With summer here, a popular grilled entree is "Beer Can Chicken."
