OilGoneEasy for the home removes oil in an eco-friendly way

Today our guest on Home and Living is Scott Licamele, President of OilGoneEasy (pictured below, right). Oil Gone Easy, now available to consumer, is the product that was used to help clean up the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska, and other spills on land.

Q.: Scott, thank you for being our guest. Can you tell Home and Living Readers a little about your background?

A.: My background is actually in investment banking and the pharmaceutical industry. A family friend is the inventor of Oil Gone Easy industrial products and he recently asked me to develop and distribute a retail version. Until now, the product has been used by oil companies and governments around the world to clean up oil spills. Oil Gone Easy was used to clean up the Prestige oil spill off of Spain and the Boyne River spill in Ireland.

Q.: What are company’s products?

A.: The company retails two products. The first is Oil Gone Easy Home and Driveway S-200 which is used to remove oil and fuel stains from surfaces such as driveways, garage floors and soil. The other product is Oil Gone Easy Marine S-200 which removes oil and fuel waste from boat bilges.

Q.: What are some of the properties of OilGoneEasy that make it a good product?

A: There are three major benefits.

1) The product is easy to use. One application is usually required. Just saturate an oil stain with Oil Gone Easy and that’s it. Within 10-14 days the stain will be completely eliminated using bioremediation technology
2) Oil Gone Easy is an eco-friendly oil stain remover! Our technology biodegrades hazardous oil and fuel spills into water and harmless gases. Oil Gone Easy is not a solvent or absorbent.
3) There is no cleanup required. You just pour Oil Gone Easy onto an oil stain or spill and it will eliminate it over a 10 to 14 day period. Other products such as degreasers require messy cleanup and usually don’t get all the oil out.

Q.: How are your customers using OilGoneEasy?

A.: The Home and Driveway product is used primarily to remove oil stains from driveways. People tend to spill oil when fixing cars or using lawn equipment. Our product offers an easy, effective and environmentally safe method for cleaning up these stains and spills.

The Marine product is used by boaters to keep their bilges clean. They pour it into the bilge and it removes any leaking oil for up to three months. This is important because it is illegal to discharge oil and fuel waste into the water. Oil Gone Easy “catches” and eliminates bilge oil waste before it can leak into our waterways.

Q.: Is this a product you can use with children and pets in the family?

A.: Yes. It is non toxic and safe around pets and children.

Q.: I had some really bad oil staining in my garage for many years. I did scrape some of the deposits up, applied two applications of OilGoneEasy and the surface looks great now. I almost didn’t believe it. What is the process behind the magic?

A.: The process is called bioremediation. Our product recruits local bacteria resident in your environment which then break down the oil. Oil Gone Easy is recognized by the EPA. You can learn more at: http://www.oilgoneeasy.com/spillcleanup-faq.php.

Q.: If you wanted to paint your garage floor, you should de-grease first, right?

A.: Absolutely. Oil stains must be removed from concrete floors before paint or epoxy is applied. If you don’t get rid of the oil, the paint will peel off. Oil Gone Easy is a great tool for prepping a garage floor before painting.

Q.: How is OilGoneEasy an eco-friendly product?

A.: Oil Gone Easy is eco-friendly because it is non toxic and it actually biodegrades the oil thus removing it from the environment completely. This is the key difference between our product and conventional oil removers. If you use a degreaser, you will end up washing the oil down a drain. This oil ends up contaminating the environment (oil goes down your drain at home, into the storm drains, and then makes its way into rivers, lakes and oceans). Oil is classified as a hazardous material in the United States. If four million households each flush 1 quart of oil into storm drains in a given metropolitan area over ten years – that’s potentially one million gallons of oil making its way into the marine environment. Oil Gone Easy stops oil contamination at the source – completely.

Q.: By the way, who gave it your product it’s name, I really like it versus a made-up designer name.

A.: I came up with the name myself. Thought it got the point across clearly.

Q.: Where can my Readers find OilGoneEasy?

A.: Our product is available exclusively online at www.OilGoneEasy.com. We are currently developing a retailer network.

Q.: Is there anything else you would like to tell Home and Living Readers?

A.: A small oil spill on your driveway may not seem like a big deal, but the environmental consequences can be serious. We hope Oil Gone Easy will help you to remove oil stains from your property and protect the environment at the same time.
