Brittany Murphy's brother says 8 Mile star is 'a casualty of that town'

Actress Brittany Murphy's half-brother has stepped forward, blaming Hollywood for his sister's untimely death.

Murphy's estranged-sibling Jeff Bertolotti, son of her father Angelo Bertolotti, says Brittany is "a casualty of that town".

As previously reported, the 8 Mile star was found unconscious in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home by her mother on Sunday (December 20). Murphy was later pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. (See: Actress Brittany Murphy dies at 32)

Bertolotti told People.com, "People come into the town with their dreams and get chewed up alive and those who make it get chewed up alive anyway. And that's what happened to Brittany. She's a casualty of that town."

Murphy's half-brother also insists her Hollywood lifestyle and changing inner-circle blocked him out of her life. Bertolotti says the "Hollywood walls went up" after 2001.

"I'm not saying it's their (her friends') fault, but I do think they should have taken care of her better. I think she should have been cared for. Look, if she died at 32, something is not right. What happened? I don't get it. At 32-years-old something happened. I don't know what. I'm sure there was no foul play. It's just that something is wrong... It's heartbreaking. I was crazy about that kid."
