Hollywood culture is a funny thing. OJ Simpson has seen his name in headline news this week related to two disturbing celebs stories, neither of which are feel good reads for anybody. On the one hand, he was compared to Hulk Hogan. That might sound like a nice thing on the surface [being compared to a very popular pro wrestler everyone knows and loves], but the comparison intention was really ugly. On the other hand, his name has popped up in international major media reports comparing him to another accused killer, one who prosecutors say killed a family member in cold blood without any remorse or mercy, Casey Anthony.
Legacy of Shame
Most recently, OJ was compared to "Tot Mom" Casey Anthony by the Toronto Star. She is on trial in Florida for allegedly killing her two-year-old daughter, Kaylee Anthony. Casey Anthony similes arose for showing a merciless and emotion-free demeanor in court. Allowing his lawyers to rip holes in the witnesses with callous disregard for his family and theirs, he masked the likely truth that he very well may have been guilty. That is the popular theory about how Anthony's defense attorney has been behaving as he tears down the reputation of anyone connected to the murder mystery. Rumors about celebrity athlete
Simpson's name also came up during a sports celebrity interview of Linda Hogan earlier this week—the ex-wife of famous professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. During their live chat, a radio DJ asked her about comments she made about the murders and spouse abuse. According to Wrestle Heat online magazine,
Linda was also asked about comparing herself to O.J. Simpson's late wife Nicole during a recent interview, when she said Hulk Hogan was physically abusive towards her and didn't want to wind up [dead] like Nicole Brown Simpson.
During the celebrity interview, Linda Hogan responded:
No disrespect, I'm not comparing myself to her, I was comparing the situation. I put that message in my book. That's what I wrote the book for was to put that message out to women that you have a decision. If you're living in a marriage with abuse, and it can come in the form of infidelity, lying, and physical abuse, and as it escalates throughout the years, you tolerate some and it gets a little bit worse, and you tolerate that and it becomes the norm.
Unhappy endings to sad celeb gossip stories
Many people who know Hulk Hogan personally and attend the same Unity church he does in Southwest Florida think the comparison between the Hulkster and OJ Simpson is both crass and defamatory. Others think Linda Hogan is just a bitter ex who used the Nicole Simpson death allegory to get her own name in the Hollywood magazines. Whatever the case, it's too bad Linda Hogan was not the gal married to the former football player. Why? Because she looks like she could take him in a fight and Nicole might be here today to raise her babies instead of their baby daddy.
In other news about OJ Simpson, the National Enquirer ran a cover piece implying the celebrity athlete has cancer. Investigating the story showed that his sister may have the disease, but he is cancer free.
