George Clooney did not mention Elisabetta on Letterman

Actor George Clooney is giving celebrity interviews now that he is promoting his new movie The Ides of March, but he's not talking love and romance. At least, that is, with late night talk show host David Letterman. The star gave a rare celebrity interview to the talk show host in front of a live studio audience -- the segments aired on October 5, 2011.

The handsome actor talked about Walter Cronkite, Lake Como, life as a humanitarian who has pledged to use his star power to help the people of Darfur in Sudan, and even Brad Pitt. But, amidst his jokes and sad tale mix was nothing about his recent break-up, his ex Elisabetta Canalis being voted off Dancing With The Stars early in the season after bickering with her dance partner, or his new girlfriend Stacy Keibler now.

Letterman did jab a few subtle gay jokes at him as well as making allusion to his party-boy Playboy lifestyle -- ones Clooney looked uncomfortable about being on the receiving end of (no pun intended). It's no wonder he has not bothered to promote his last few movies (like Up In The Air or The American) on the late night TV talk show.

Since George Clooney prefers not to discuss any personal issues during interviews and feels people's interest in his stardom is a bane rather than a boost to his career, he's not likely to take kindly to any gay jokes or hints that he is anything other than heterosexual. He's been battling those rumors and allegations (that he is a closet homosexual) for years.

Hollywood culture has let leading men like Carey Grant stay in the closet so they never lost roles as a leading man. Many actors in Hollywood are rumored to be gay. To advance their careers, they often times hide their sexuality. Having relationships with (most often) married men let the exes keep their social reputation as heterosexuals married to [or dating women] in tact.

Since Clooney has been accused of faking heterosexual relationships for years and has replaced Elisabetta Canalis with a professional wrestler named Stacy Keibler just in time to make his red carpet appearances at Fall film festivals, questions during interviews about his relationships (LGBT or not) are probably off limits right now. At least on late night TV...
