The soulful work created by young female artists and their songwriters can be an inspiration not only to kids but also adults looking for words of wisdom and personal empowerment.
Raven Symone - Lines from "Cinderella" lyrics
- I'd rather rescue myself
- I can slay my own dragons
I can dream my own dream - My knight in shining armor is me
So I'm gonna set me free
Hilary Duff - Lines from "Inner Strength" lyrics
- Gotta find your inner strength
If you can't then just throw life away - Gotta learn to rely on you
Beauty, strength, and wisdom, too - You're beautiful inside and out
Lead a great life without a doubt
Miley Cyrus - Lines from "The Climb" lyrics
- But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high - There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move - Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose - Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
Carrie Underwood - Lines from "Lessons Learned" lyrics
- And all the things that break you,
Are all the things that make you strong - You can't change the past,
Cause it's gone - And you just gotta move on,
Because it's all,
Lessons learned.
When you resonate with a specific piece of music on the radio, especially after you've prayed for guidance or strength, listen to the words and the overall message. Though the theme of the lyric may be universal in nature, a particular chorus or line playing may be exactly what you need to hear to gain insight into the direction of your life.

good article and good points. I like Carrie Underwood a lot. Unfortunately I can't get past Hillary Duff's horrible lyrics from "Come Clean" to listen to anymore of her singing: "I'm shedding/shedding every color/trying to find a pigment of truth..." ouch.
While these girls perhaps don't have the image of "empowering young woman," I do agree that some of their lyrics could be empowering to young girls, but if we want to empower our young girls I feel that we have to also introduce them to singers who are all about empowering women. Think of the Riot Grrrl movement of the 1990s. It was very inspiring, but has been left mostly in the dust to be forgotten, except for those whom were inspired/motivated by it.
Good article...glad you could sit through Hillary Duff!
