Recipes for homemade cat food

Thank you, local readers, for expressing interest in recipes for homemade cat food. As you are aware, not every homemade pet food diet published on the internet is nutritionally balanced. Since nutrient imbalances can be disastrous, especially in cats, it is important to follow a recipe from a veterinarian with extensive experience formulating pet food recipes. It is also well worth your while to spend some time learning the basics of feline nutritional requirements. Catinfo.org is a great place to start. Dr. Lorie Huston also provides a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of home cooking pet food and lists two major on-line resources for formulating balanced recipes.  Her article on healthy homemade diets for pets  is a must read for anyone new to this approach to pet care.
While this endeavor can be labor intensive in terms of time and research, it can also be rewarding when done properly.  An advantage of home cooking, over commercial diets, is the ability to really personalize the diet based on based on any health concerns, such as allergies or sensitive stomach. Plus, it is a chance to cater to your cat’s likes and dislikes. Even the fussiest among our feline friends are likely to show enthusiasm for the right home made meal.
Once you have done your research, it is time to get cooking. When it comes to reliable resources for integrative pet care, including recipes, Dr. Susan Wynn and Dr. Ihor Basko deliver:

Thanks! I dont have time to cook that often for my cat - but I do give her the occassional treat of raw fish, chicken, and some times beef. I will have to try the sardines for her to.

That sounds like a very balanced approach to your cat's nutrition. The treats you are describing are so much better for her than the overly processed options out there for pets.
