What the swine flu is really teaching us

Swine flu has been the number one news story and yes, people have died from this form of the flu, but it should not turn into a panic if we understand how the body works.

The flu virus, like any other organism, wants to reproduce.  The body has defense mechanisms that stop virus reproduction from happening.  If the body is well equipped to do so, the flu is short lived.

The recent concern about quarantines and vaccines is confusing to people.  The anxious reaction is showing us that we have not learned from past history.  Going back through the pages of history may be more telling and help us realize our current actions today should be taken differently.

When recent breakouts of swine flu occurred in school children, experts were wondering why healthy children were at risk.  This certainly created a panic since healthy children should be the least likely to contract swine flu.

Perhaps the real question should be: why did we assume they were healthy?  Maybe in truth they were not healthy.  Maybe they eat a diet of processed foods with sugar substitute and high fructose corn syrup.  Maybe they are sleep deprived because their bodies are overwhelmed with electronic technology.

Maybe they are healthy and getting sick in childhood is a necessary process to reinforce resistance.

We know viruses and bacteria will always be our close neighbors and fighting them has been futile.  It has become a danger since most pathogens learn how to reconfigure themselves and become stronger.  As intelligent humans we need to do the same thing.

Just like the neighborhood bully, fighting back might help or make it worse.  Bullies will go away when they know they no longer feel superior or cannot penetrate someone's emotional shell.  We have to find ways to make our cells more superior and impenetrable to the virus.

From a holistic viewpoint, vaccine theory  conflicts with "biological logic" because exposure to viruses is completely natural.  Exposure to vaccines is the opposite.  Vaccines speak a language that the brain can never translate and put to good use.

Our modern day artificial lifestyle also speaks a language the brain can never translate. This may be why viruses and bacteria are getting stronger and we are not.  Our depleted foods and lack of Vitamin D (since we no longer go outside and exercise) are giving the pathogens the head start.  We will never win this race.

How do you explain the half a million US deaths from the Spanish flu of 1917-1918? Obviously this was before the days of processed foods, electronic technology, and too little sunshine exposure. It wasn't just the lack of antibiotics and modern medical technology that caused those deaths. It has more to do with the nature of a particular virus rather than lifestyle choices. The majority of the deaths then, as now with the swine flu, were in the 20-49 age group. Many of the Spanish flu deaths were thought to be a result of cytokine storms, something almost as hard to treat today as back then. You seem to be saying that those "healthy/but not healthy" people who died or will die from this flu are responsible for their own deaths. This may make some people feel that it can't happen to them, but I don't think anyone can afford to be smug because of their perceived superior health habits.

I am not going to explain the Spanish flu deaths. It's not same flu. However, as a chiropractor, I can note how the Palmer School clinic had much fewer deaths compared to the medical establishment during that time. Viruses will mutate. I am saying we are far from healthy today in 2009. I think the smugnesss comes from our overall arrogance that we know science!
