We have lost another talented black man too soon. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s you should remember the music this man help create. He was a talented guitarist for Parliament-Funkadelic and co-wrote songs like “Atomic Dog” and “One Nation Under a Groove.” Parliament-Funkadelic is a group that's more than just a musical group, they are much more. During their popular era they would land “the mothership” on stage during their concerts (a huge space ship) and Garry would come on stage dressed in only a diaper playing the guitar with the nickname “Starchild.” Their sound is so different and funky they are in a category that really belongs to them alone, P-Funk. Their music was the backdrop to many teens growing up during the 70s and 80s. Shider’s work did earn him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in March.
He died in his home in upper Marlboro, MD on June 16.
With the lost of this talented musician the family is seeking help to pay for the medical treatments needed to deal with his cancer. They have a website that also has Cancer awareness links (see below).
The African-American community in the Chicago area and beyond especially needs to remember the lost of brothers like Garry Shider who we lost to cancer, Marvin Isley who we recently lost to diabetes and others like Luther Vandross who we lost a while back to complications from diabetes and a massive stroke. These diseases rank much higher in the African-American communities. Changing over to a healthier lifestyle, better diet and supplements to provide the body with the nutrition needed could save more lives. We have to take our health into our own hands.
Condolences go out to the Shider family. You can make donations on his site: http://www.garryshidermedicalfund.com.

Thanks for the great article. I was not familiar with him.
I love me some "Parliament Funkadelic" and enjoyed seeing them
perform. It is so sad to see so many of our men be taken from us due to cancer and so many other diseases. Thanks for sharing
some healthy tips.
