You have to at least experience one pub crawl in your life. They’re fun ways to be social and visit new neighborhoods and their drinking establishments. But what can you do if you like the idea of hanging out with and meeting new friends and discovering neighborhood gems, but would rather skip the drinking and focus on something a bit, well, kinder to your body, mind and spirit?
CHEW Chicago is taking pub crawls to a healthier level by introducing a wellness tour to experience the best in Chicago fitness, health, wellness and beauty – one neighborhood at a time. This weekend kicks off the CHEW Chicago Wellness Tour-Lincoln Park, with $5 of every $40 ticket going to BeBrightPink.org, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month .
Strap on your walking shoes as this three-to-four hour Lincoln Park walking tour will include stops, classes, tastings, samples and more at Lululemon, Veria Natural Wellness, Karyn’s Raw, Body Endeavors, Balance Health & Wellness, The Green City Market, LUSH and Whole Foods. Ticket cost covers all food and beverage tastings, all classes and discounts plus a reusable, eco-friendly goodie bag. Click here for the full schedule and details.
Jessica Maria, CHHC, AADP, president & founder, CHEW Chicago, has a goal to bring CHEW Taste of Wellness Tours to every major city in the U.S. She provides some insight into the inaugural CHEW tour.
Q: What is the inspiration behind CHEW Chicago Taste of Wellness Tour?
A: It occurred to me that so many people are interested in the wonderful world of wellness but don’t really tap into it because of fear, intimidation or lack of information. This tour is such a great mix of different services, classes and foods that a tour participant will end the tour with a better understanding of what to expect and, even better, what they like and will try again. The idea is to create more health and wellness awareness while having fun. We’re also supporting small businesses, which is especially important in this economy.
Q: What do you hope the tour gives individuals who participate?
A: I hope that participants learn that leading a healthy lifestyle is fun and easy. I hope they take something with them that will change them forever whether it is a healthy tip, a new practice, a new food or a new moisturizer.
Q: Who should consider going on the tour?
A: Everyone. This is great for people on all levels. The best part of wellness is that there isn’t a specific demographic. Everyone will enjoy this and all will benefit.
Q: The goodie bag includes a complimentary nutrition consultation with you. Can you give a brief description of what that is?
I wanted to add that extra something for participants who are really serious about a jumpstart. The consult is approximately 60 minutes. We do a thorough health history and actively explore the person’s hardships, goals and devise a plan to reach those goals. People aren’t listened to enough in the health industry so I make sure to allow the space for this and make sure that they are heard. I want everybody I work with to succeed.
Q: Not to focus so much on the Goodie Bag but what other cool things are in there?
A: The Goodie Bag is packed with cosmetic samples from LUSH, Veria Natural Wellness, hydrating drinks from Vitamin Water 10 and Blue Print Cleanse, and then tons of amazing coupons, gift certificates, information and free class passes.
Q: How did you choose BeBrightPink.org as your Crawl for a Cause? Why is it important to support their mission?
A: I knew immediately that I wanted to do something special with this tour being that it is SO different. Not only can people do something amazing for themselves by taking this tour, but they can do something amazing for others as well. I chose BeBrightPink.org because the tour launches in October and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The next Taste of Wellness Tour will be in April 2010 and we will support a new charity, cause or foundation.
Q: So you’ll be putting together other health crawls?
A: Yes! During the cold winter months I will be choreographing the Lakview/Wrigleyville Tour, the Gold Coast/Old Town Tour, the Downtown Tour, and the Bucktown/Wicker Park Tour. Check our website for details for these spring 2010 tours.
