As moms, we're pretty clear that the most important holiday of the year is Mother's Day. Ok, it's a little self-serving, but still, we think moms are the best. And when it comes to celebrating, they know how to do it up right. After all, in most families, it's mom who plans when and where to hold the festivities, who to invite, arranges for games, secures the prizes and gifts, then does most of the preparations, not to mention the clean up. It's hard to argue that mothers don't deserve a pretty neat salute of their own at least one day a year, right? Well, we think they do which is why we'll be sprinkling not-so-subtle "hints" about Mom's Day here on the Examiner over the next month or so. After all, a big celebration requires preparation!
We wanted to start with a suggestion for a gift that is pure northwest, the popular "comfy skirt" from Texture Clothing. Until now, the only way you could purchase one of these looks-good-on-any-figure, hemp-organic cotton (with a tiny bit of lycra) skirts, was to buy it online. But happily, on Saturday, April 4, Texture's proprietress, Teresa Remple, is opening a boutique in Bellingham, a short hop north of Seattle. Texture Home will feature loads of Teresa's comfortable, hard wearing, fashionable, figure flattering, "lovingly made, deftly stitched, beautifully patterned in the Pacific NW clothing with a conscience."
And while we haven't seen the vintage home decor offerings of Teresa's partner, Cara, we're betting you should hie yourself up north for the opening in time to snatch up an item or two for mom along with that skirt. Better yet, take your mother with you and watch her ooh and ahh as you feign disinterest, then, while she's in the powder room, you can buy her heart's desire for Mum's Day.
From 11 a.m.-7 p.m., there will be raffles every hour at Texture Home, along with deluxe goodie bags for the first 30 purchases, 10% off of everything all day long and delectable treats on which to nibble and nosh!
