With Groundhog Day less than a week away, students, teachers, and homeschooling parents are actively looking for free Groundhog Day lesson plans, pictures of Punxsutawney Phil, worksheets, and kids' activities. Groundhog Day is February 2, 2012, and Punxsutawney Phil will be looking for his shadow next Thursday.
Older students that are following this year's political debates, might be interested to hear how "Groundhog Day" plays into current news. According to ABC News, Mitt Romney Thursday, January 26th was quoted as saying,
"This has been a Groundhog Day presidency. He (President Obama) keeps saying the same things and we keep waking up with the same things going on. Nothing changes."
Teachers and students can go to ABC News and use Mitt Romney's Groundhog Day references as part of their lesson plans.
Closer to home, Providence, Rhode Island residents may remember the nasty Groundhog Day snowstorm that hit the area and closed schools and many businesses on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011. Hopefully the weather will be better this year.
