National Single Parents Day

Let’s face it, raising children can be challenging.   But for many single parents, it can be downright difficult. For many singles, trying to be both mother and father and going it alone can be stressful, lonely and frustrating for many.

Each year, National Single Parents Day is celebrated on March 21st.   In 1984, National Single Parents Day was enacted by President Ronald Regan and the United States Congress.  A portion of the declaration reads:

“Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim March 21, 1984, as National Single Parent Day. I call on the people of the United States to recognize the contributions single parents are making, sometimes under great hardships, to the lives of their children, and I ask that they volunteer their help, privately or through community organizations, to single parents who seek it to meet their aspirations for their children.”

If you or someone you know, is a single parent, take a moment and let them know you are thinking of them today.

National Single Parents Day Ideas:

Why not remind the single parents in your life, that they are valued and appreciated? Give them an extra hug, send them a note or take them out for lunch. If you know of any single parents with young children, why not offer to babysit for a few hours? If you are a single parent, give yourself a little pat on the back. You deserve it!
