May 15th is not just another typical day of the week. May 15th is also known as National Chocolate Chip Day, a special day set aside each year "dedicated" to those oh-so-rich and creamy chocolate chips we love to eat.
In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield “discovered” chocolate chips when she was baking cookies. Ms. Wakefield did not have a particular ingredient for her recipe, so she substituted a chopped up chocolate bar, added them to the cookie batter and baked them. Although the chocolate pieces did not fully melt, they were soft, creamy and delicious. And by the way - the chocolate bar Ruth used in her cookies was reportedly given to her from Andrew Nestle. From that one simple substitution, the chocolate chip was born and cookies were never the same!
This May 15th, why not celebrate the sweet occasion with a delicious and decadent recipe? Plus, it provides yet another great excuse to nibble on some fabulous chocolate treats we love to eat.
