I don't know about you, but I'm casting a wider and wider net for hockey news as the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs eliminate team after team. Summer is approaching fast, and no NHL hockey to keep me glued to the TV. Out of curiousity, I've been paying attention to where NHL, AHL, and CHL players come from and are going to in the offseason. As a hockey fan, you might find the following information about Team Russia rather interesting, as it's about half NHL, the rest KHL.

This information was reported on RussianHockeyFans.com, a rather cool sight if I do say so myself. Team Russia has geared up for their World Championship games.

Former Dallas Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said "The thing that people don't understand is the difference between the players who play here in the NHL and the players who play in their league over in Russia. This is a wake-up call to how good they are. They come at you with skill and speed and don't get enough credit. They're real good players."

Team Russia released the preliminary roster for the upcoming 2010 World Championship, that will be played in Germany from May 7th to 23rd.. Bykov and Zakharkin made some changes from the LG Hockey Games line-up. (The LG Hockey games are held in the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. The winner of the tournament receives the Globen Cup - the tournament is sometimes called the Sweden Globen Cup.)

The Team Russia roster is made up of 11 NHL players and 12 KHL players. The team's captain isn't decided yet. Most likely the starting goaltender duties will be shared between Eremenko and Varlamov, with Koshechkin acting as third goalie. Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov declined play due to injury.
