The North Dakota State University men’s hockey team has set their tryout dates for the 2010-2011 season. The Bison will host tryouts at Southwest Arena in south Fargo September 7-9. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. on September 7 and practices will begin at 7:00 p.m. all three nights.
John Douglas will begin his third season behind the bench for NDSU, who plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The Bison are an M-1 club, which puts them with some of the best and largest schools that play ACHA hockey.
NDSU has scheduled some quality teams for the 2010-2011 campaign. They will open the season in a suburb of Chicago when they take on fellow ACHA M-1 Robert Morris (IL) on September 24 and 25. Minot State, Indiana, and Oklahoma are the other ACHA M-1 teams on the schedule.
There are also ACHA M-2 and M-3 teams on the schedule. The Bison will play St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Crookston, who are both ACHA M-2 teams. The only ACHA M-3 team on the NDSU schedule is South Dakota State. The schedule rounds out with Dakota College at Bottineau who was all set to become an ACHA M-3 team this year, but has reportedly backed out and rejoined the NJCAA.
There are two free sessions of open hockey for players to prepare for tryouts. Both sessions will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Arena. The sessions will be held on August 31 and September 2 and there will be no charge to participants.
To be eligible for ACHA hockey, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and have at least 12 credits per semester. All other NCAA hockey rules do apply to the ACHA. For more information on the ACHA, go to www.achahockey.org.

That is hilarious. Made my morning. NDSU and hockey just don't go together. You need to go 70 miles north for the real deal.
Thanks for the comment. The ACHA is a great opportunity for kids to continue their hockey career. Hockey is the greatest sport in the world and I support anything that keeps more people involved in the game. No one is ever going to say that NDSU will rival UND in hockey, but it is great for these kids and their families that they can continue to play the game in college.
