The Fargo Force completed its weekend sweep of the Omaha Lancers to move into first place in the West Division of the United States Hockey League. Fargo beat Omaha, 4-3, on Friday night after beating Sioux Falls the night before. Fargo slipped past Omaha, 3-1, on Saturday night to move into sole possession of first place in the West.
Ryan Daugherty scored a power play goal for Omaha just over three minutes into the game to put the Lancers on top 1-0. Fargo evened the contest when Johnnie Searfoss put in a goal with an assist to Colten St. Clair just 17 seconds after the Daugherty goal. Recent Denver University commit Garrett Allen came in on a breakaway late in the first period and slipped the puck into the net for the eventual game-winning goal. Nick Oliver and Nicholas Romanick assisted on Allen’s tally.
Dayn Belfour (Fargo) and Jeff Teglia (Omaha) dueled for the rest of the night. Late in the third period, Omaha pulled Teglia for the extra attacker, but their efforts were futile as the Force scored an empty net goal to put the game on ice. Corey Leivermann scored the empty net goal with an assist going to Captain Chase Grant.
Belfour stopped 15 of 16 shots to pick up the win for the Force. He is now 4-0-2 with the Force. Teglia stopped 31 of 33 shots in a losing cause.
The Force is back in action at home next weekend against Cedar Rapids, the current number two team in the East Division. Friday night’s game is at 7:35 and Saturday night the puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05.
