The Fargo Force has been heading the wrong way late in the season. They were losers of five of their last six before Friday night. Captain Chase Grant broke a 2-2 tie with Waterloo with 2:50 remaining in the third period and Nate Condon added an empty net goal to help lead Fargo to a big 4-2 win at home.
Fargo’s point leader Corey Leivermann opened the scoring on the power play in the first period. Nick Oliver and Garrett Allen assisted on the power play goal. It was Leivermann’s 17th goal of the season. He now has 49 points in 47 games played. The Force outshot the Blackhawks 13-6 in the first and held the 1-0 lead at intermission.
Johnnie Searfoss extended the Fargo lead to 2-0 midway through the second period. Matt Leitner picked up the lone assist on the goal. Zach Palmquist cut the lead in half for Waterloo with just over four minutes to go in the middle frame. The Palmquist goal started a change in momentum that would later benefit the Blackhawks.
Waterloo was able to tie the game at the 12:10 mark of the third period. J.T. Brown was the goal scorer for the Blackhawks. That set the stage for Grant. Colten St. Clair set up the Force captain for his team leading 26th goal of the year with 2:50 remaining in regulation. Condon added on an empty net goal unassisted with 39 seconds remaining.
Dayn Belfour was superb in goal in the game, and he had to be. He stopped 31 shots with Ryan Massa watching the game from the stands with an injury. Former Warroad High School star Jason Goldsmith dressed as the backup. Goldsmith most recently played a collegiate for the North Dakota State Bison of the American College Hockey League. C.J. Motte was very good for Waterloo, as he stopped 31 shots as well in picking up the tough luck loss.
The two teams will hit the ice again tomorrow night at the UP Center in Fargo. Game time is set for 7:05.

While I'm glad for the win, I don't think the Force has turned anything around.
Waterloo had WAY too many shots on goal, and were playing without their captain (concussion) and head coach (son passed away).
This article makes it sound like everything is better. Not true. Not true.
Thank you for the comment. You are absolutely right that the Force didn't turn their ship around, but they at least slowed a slide. Sometimes winning a game like this can build confidence, which in turn can lead to some more wins. Hopefully it does.
