The Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum’s Homeschool Friday program will begin on August 14th. This year’s Homeschool Friday topics will cover a broad range of military history, and take advantage of the museum’s exciting exhibit schedule over the next academic year.

Homeschool Fridays is a program normally held on the second Friday morning of each month at the museum from August through May. The museum offers lectures and activities to supplement home learning on topics related to military history.
Each year’s lessons include a percentage of brand-new topics as well as selected successful lesson plans from past years. August always begins with the “How to Study a Battle” session, a general overview of some necessary knowledge and basic principles in studying military history. In the ’09-10 school year, topics will include the American Revolution in our state, Confederate soldiers from South Carolina, and service in World Wars One and Two. There will also be special sessions on the development of infantry, cavalry and artillery through the 19th and 20th centuries. Homeschool Fridays will enrich any South Carolina history or American history course, and some sessions will be relevant to 20th century world history topics as well.
Homeschool Fridays are free to participants, and include free admission to the Relic Room as well! All ages are welcome, and preregistration is suggested but not required. Regular Homeschool Friday participants will be eligible for the museum’s annual Student Recognition Award, as well; watch for details in September.
The museum is located at 301 Gervais Street in the same building as the South Carolina Stae Museum.
