The Key Peninsula, located just outside of Gig Harbor, WA, recently held auditions for their first annual "Key's Got Talent" event. The finals will be held on August 28th of this year at the annual Key Peninsula Community Fair.

One such contestant who will compete in the finals is Curtis Nix, aka Loom. This father of six has been perfecting his craft for many years, never seeking monetary compensation but rather for the enjoyment of the genre. However, now he feels he is at a stage in his life where it is time to step out of the shadows and introduce himself as a viable artist in the industry. He is set to release his first album, See No Evil Peepholes, later this year.

Curtis chose the name Loom as a reflection of his past musical influences and how they have woven themselves into his current music. Such influences include Tool, Nirvana, PaperBoy, Vanilla Ice, Wu-Tang Clan, EPMD, Souls of Mischief, Hyroglyphics, Smoothe Da Hustla, De La Soul, Big L, Special Ed, Ill Galaxy, Aesop Rock; and he also takes with him the music that was important to his parents -- Rock and Roll, Opera, and Classical.

An important thing you should know about Loom is he believes in integrity both personally and professionally. He explains, "my favorite band, and biggest influence, is Tool. They maintain integrity integrity for their music at all costs and have a lot of respect for their fans. I do not curse in rhymes, I feel they only take away from my testimony, and in my opinion, its more of an " F" You! to those who love to censor Hip Hop, to take those stains and scars away myself, by simply censoring myself." If his lyrics can demonstrate his angst succinctly without the use of profanity, he'll never have to create a second "radio-edit version" of his songs.

Loom has performed at the South Sound Poetry Slam, First Night, and Jazz Bones; but it has been a while since he has performed in public. He hopes with his renewed interest in writing and performing, he can build a wider fan base and continue to do what he loves.
