Jay-Z gets vintage in video for "D.O.A.". Photo: Rocafella.
At last night's 2009 BET Awards, [Click here for recap] Jay-Z took to the stage to perform his controversial song "D.O.A.". It seem only fitting to debut the video the same night following the award show. Judging by the video, Jay may have started a new trend in Hip-Hop.
The video opens up to Jay walking into an abandoned warehouse dressed in all black paired with black sunglasses at night. With short clips of him dining at a fine restaurant and performing on a smoky stage, Jay-Z shows that you can remain in Hip-Hop without molding to the current standards. Instead of having half-naked women shaking and moving in his video while rapping with a bottle of the most popular liquor on the market in his hand, Jay paves a new way for his style of music; vintage yet classy.
While that is going on, in short snippets there are explosions of all things deemed dead which includes bottles of Cristal, excessive diamond jewelry, and a clothing rack of what seems to be tight jeans and colorful shirts.
And to those of you that just can't get off of Jay's decision to grow and afro, he gives you a special treat in the video.
A lot of people were not expecting for their to be a video for this song simply because Jay proclaimed it a street single; but it is still refreshing to see a video from Jay-Z, giving hint that an album is sure to follow.
Speaking of Jay-Z, there is word that he had something to do with Chris Brown not showing up to the 2009 BET Awards and most importantly not performing. Apparently, Chris Brown was booted from the line-up.
Though insiders say that a few artists were scrapped from performances to accommodate the Michael Jackson tributes throughout the night, Chris Brown's dancers tend to think otherwise. One of those dancers took to their twitter to express their discontent with Jay-Z and his involvement with causing Chris Brown to miss an opportunity to pay homage to his hero.
Jay-Z is mad childish. Never keep a person from paying there respect.
Seems like a case of he said she said. Whatever the case may be hopefully the allegations are not true because no matter what the circumstance may be, keeping someone from paying their respects to the one that inspired their musical journey, is unacceptable and down right cold.
Jay-Z is scheduled to release his highly anticipated album Blueprint 3 on September 11th, 2009.

Me thinks: Oh well...beating the **** out of your girlfriend ain't that warm either. Kiddo need to be schooled, and schooled, and then schooled some more. Boo-f'n-hoo
If it is true Chris should not let J stop him, he can easily get more buzz creating a series of utube videos, Although the courts said he and R can't be any where near each other, perhaps he expected her to be there, since she was nominated..
I was incredibly disappointed that BET chose to show a video instead of a Jackson montage or an old Jackson 5 video after the show. It wasn't Jay's day. BET promised a tribute show.
And Jay can go you know where. That show was garbage without Chris Breezy.

He made a mistake!!!! There is no artist in entertainment who hasn't. Rick James and James Brown are known for hitting women and were still two of the greatest! Leave that damn boy alone...he's TALENTED and thats all that matters!I'm pretty sure that will be his last time ever hitting a woman...he has learned his lesson. He is young and has mad a terrible mistake...who hasn't?! The legal system has dealt with him and who the FCK is Jay Z to judge?! wasn't even an ASSET to the show...That show would have been 30x better if he had performed and everyone knows it. GET OFF HIM!!
What is wrong with you people this dude just beat a woman and was convicted. He shouldnt pay respect to someone who didnt act like that. The timing just isnt right for him to do that and it would have taken the focus off what needed to be done. Jay z doesnt own the bet awards so there is no way he makes that final decision. Who is chris brown what has he really done for the game? Nothing at all so who needs his tirbute to anything.
who is Chris Brown and what has he done for the game? The boy has shattered anyone's hope of ever being better than him in dancing. He has reserected the slight thought that he could even be on the same level as MJ as far as dancing goes. I know neither neyo, usher, or justin timberlake could out last Chris on the dance floor.
further more, he made a mistake and again people are going by one side of the story to place blame. Not everyone know's what happened between he and Rihanna. Obviously he has to plead guilty because he had to cop a plea deal otherwise he would find himself in a very bad situation.
did we not learn from Michael Jackson? The man was accused of doing x, y, and z and his sanity was lost in it all, things that contributed to his death. tyson, you act as if when michael was alive you were his biggest fan, judging by your comment you probably were one of the people that had nothing but negative to say about him while he was alive and breathing.
