Most people would start a tribute article listing all of the person's accolades and a list of the who's who's with whom they were connected. You should know that my articles don't generally follow any typical format.
Terika Grooms was my friend. I worked with her on several occasions, and what a wonderful light she shined on the world during her short time with us on Earth. We went to school together at James Madison University. I've never-ever seen her without a smile. I've never heard her speak a negative word about another person. I've never seen her visibly frustrated or upset. I've only heard positive things said from and about her. For 3-4 years, I hosted a step show at James Madison in which Terika was the DJ. We would communicate back and forth for weeks prior to each show. She was so passionate about the music. She would help me think of songs that would get the crowd hype! We laughed and shared our excitement before each show. I saw Terika, aka DJ Peachez last on October 17, 2009 doing what she loved most - DJing. She DJ'd JMU's main tailgate area. There was a very diverse crowd. I wondered how the crowd would welcome her. I remember specifically commenting on how much she'd grown as a DJ. She was mixing Bon Jovi with Bell Biv Devoe; Aerosmith with Drake. I stood there; impressed. I said - "OK, Peachez...I see you!"
I was so proud of her.
Terika Grooms, aka DJ Peachez, the 1st lady DJ to have a regular mix show in Richmond, VA, passed away today, November 25, 2009, of an unknown illness.
Peachez began her short, but impressive career as a DJ at James Madison University, where she began honing her skills at WXJM and DJing college parties. After graduating from JMU, she moved to Richmond, VA in 2005 to pursue urban commercial radio, and earned the title "First Lady of the Cap City.
In that short time, she's collaborated with Gucci Mane, Bobby Valentino, and Nicki Minaj and many others.

Thanks for this Mike. I didn't really know DJ Peachez personally, but loved her craft. Your article helped me to see what a great person she was beyond the DJing.
Mike your sentiments truly embody the essence of Terika. I can't type too much or I will get very emotional (as I have been since Monday). I will share this: Terika was such a humble and resilient person. She ALWAYS smiled! Willing to help in any way possible. We didn't talk often but had several "catch up" conversations in which she would fill me in on her "plan." She had it all together, planning to attend law school and deejaying :-)
I will always feel blessed to have known her...her memory will live with me forever...
