Alicia Keys shined this evening at the Nokia Theater at Times Square in New York City. The concert, One Night, One Voice, One Life at a Time was presented by American Express through AEG Digital Media via a global webcast on YouTube. Viewers could access the show by logging onto Keys’ YouTube channel at: www.youtube.com/aliciakeyssme.
The humble superstar performed “Karma,” “You Don’t Know My Name” and many more hits. After “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” from her upcoming album, The Element of Freedom, she took the opportunity to express her concern for the “broken hearts” of the 14 million children in Sub-Saharan Africa orphaned by AIDS.
Keys’ inspiration for the show and her return to Africa came from her first trip to the continent nearly a decade ago. From the piano she asked, “Can I take you to Africa?” and offered a 5-digit code, 90999 (now expired) to text the word “Alive” for a chance to win a trip to Africa with her next year. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Keys belted out a slow-tempo version of the massive hit, “Empire State of Mind.” The stage went silent for a moment only for the incomparable Brooklyn native, Jay-Z, to enter the stage. Immediately, hands flew into the air, either to take pictures or hold up the famous dynasty sign.
The concert will be rebroadcast on Keys' YouTube channel. Go to www.youtube.com/aliciakeyssme.
