Bollywood, the Indian film Industry is an amalgamation of Western and Indian culture, it reaches a wide audience in different countries from Los Angeles, to Dubai, to London and to Mumbai, India. It entertains all religious audiences including Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and Christians. Bollywood cinemas are known for its dances which are mostly a mix of the Western and Indian classical dance styles.
The Bay Area also has dance schools that offer classes to learn this unique style of dancing. There are many dance schools teaching Indian Classical dances like Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Odissi and Bollywood dances. The BollyZONE dance school in Sunnyvale CA is one of them.
BollyZONE was founded by Preeti and Vijay Ubhayakar. They are an integral part of one of the foremost dance groups in the Bay Area and the Nidhi Mehta’s core group. They have been instructing, teaching and choreographing dances, and also participating in “behind-the-scenes” events for various in-house production or show or events, since 2002.
Currently BollyZONE provides two types of classes the BollyCARDIO and BollyDANCE. In the former class the Bollywood dance moves are combined with aerobics along with Bollywood (Hindi) songs to serve as a mode of exercise and fun. The latter class caters to the fundamental moves of the Bollywood dance which are a combined style of Western and Indian Classical dance moves.
Information about the class schedules, registration, workshops, referral and discount programs are available at http://bollyzone.org/Home_Page.php
Bollywood dance is definitely a means for combining exercise with fun. It also caters to those who are excited about the Indian Classical dance since Bollywood dance in true sense is an amalgamation of dances from both the worlds. It is a way for both young and adults to be aware of the Hindu cultural roots and at the same time exercise in an innovative way. BollyZONE is certainly trying to keep the essence of the Bollywood dances among the Bay Area locals.
