Reiki is channelled through the practitioner's hand
There is an invisible life force energy present in every living thing known as prana, chi or ki. This is the energy that makes up everything in our physical universe. It is loving and infinite and pure. This is the same energy used in Reiki (RAY-kee) energy work.
Reiki uses life force energy to balance mind, body and spirit. It encourages healing for the highest good of all living things. Reiki also helps to balance chakras. Because universal life force energy is infinitely wise, it does not require direction from humans. It is not guided or directed by the practitioner. Reiki knows where to go and what to do; the practitioner is simply a conduit, channeling ki from the universe through the hands.
During a Reiki session, the recipient may be asked what their "intent" is for the session. Perhaps there are specific issues they wish to address or clarify. The practitioner uses symbols to amplify energy and enhance manifestation.
When a practitioner performs Reiki on a client, the practitioner is receiving universal life force energy from the universe. This energy permeates the practitioners body and energy fields as it is administered to the client. Therefore, each time a practitioner gives Reiki, they are also receiving Reiki.
When a practitioner is attuned to Reiki energy, a 21-day spiritual cleansing cycle is initiated. During this cycle, Reiki energy is moving through the seven chakras for optimal alignment and assimilation to the new energy. Some Reiki recipients experience a similar emotional, spiritual or physical detox following a session. When this occurs the recipient should drink plenty of water and allow the process to run its course.
