The full moon as observed from Earth
The full moon on August 5, 2009 (according to the Old Farmer's Almanac) or August 6, 2009 (according to the US Navy) will fuel many conversations. As Earth's only natural satellite, the moon has captured the attention of scientists, astrologers, New Age and superstitious believers for many years. Scientists ponder the moon's origins and composition. But if scientific studies leave you wanting, join the thousands of people around the globe who rejoice at full moon celebrations.
Full moon nights, also referred to as "moments of opportunity," occur when the moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the sun. The Earth-facing side of the moon is almost fully illuminated by the sun. During this time, the sun enters the electromagnetic field and the energy transmits directly to the Earth, unobstructed by the moon. This energy is believed to support regeneration, the birth of new dreams and goals, and the rebirthing of lost visions. It is a night of magic and beauty.
Full moon celebrations may include drumming, dancing, inspirational readings, meditations and chanting or singing. Another focus at full moon celebrations is the setting of an intention to serve the planet. A popular theme this year is world peace.
The time of the full moon is great for new beginnings and releasing energies that do not serve in a positive way. Take advantage of the incredible energy of the full moon to make a fresh start. It's not too late to recommit to abandoned New Year's resolutions or to set new goals and benchmarks. About.com's Phylamena lila Desy suggests a powerful full moon purging ritual that you can perform on your own.
Use the energy of the full moon to:
- celebrate accomplishments
- release toxic behaviors
- get rid of things, people and habits that are no longer needed in your life
- bury a newspaper in the ground or burn it in a cauldron to release the intention of the Universe

Comments
I have celebrated the full moon by experiencing positive energies within me and by re-enforcing me towards my goals... I am feeling calm and confident now...
for my friend i hope that they release feelings of guilt as they pass into this next phase.
H: Guilt can be a horrible burden to bear, so I wish the same for your friend if that is what is needed. Don't forget to take steps for your own personal healing, as well. The energy is here for everyone.
Ashutosh: That sounds wonderful! Hold onto to that energy as you move forward.
