Dakotah Euton made headlines when he committed to the University of Kentucky after his freshman year of high school. This past spring, the 6-foot-8 forward de-committed after Kentucky hired John Calipari. So where does Euton's recruitment stand now? I caught up with him this past weekend at the Eddie Ford Stimulus Tournament.
Johnston: What were your feelings when you found out that Billy Gillispie wouldn't be back?
Euton: Of course I was upset. I wanted to play for him. I was also upset when they hired Calipari. I know all he plays is athletic players and he even said in his first practice, if your not athletic and can beat your man to the basket you are not going to play for me, so I knew I wouldn't play for him and that's why I decommitted.
Johnston: Have you talked to coach Gillispie recently?
Euton: I have talked to him once or twice. He told me he would probably offer me a scholarship where ever he went.
Johnston: What are you working on this summer, as you try to improve your game?
Euton: I'm working on my athleticism. I've been going to the Hit Center in Lexington. I've been trying to get quicker and I'm trying to jump higher.
Johnston: Since you de-committed from Kentucky, has anyone been in contact?
Euton: Oregon State and Akron have offered. I've been talking to Notre Dame, Davidson, Stanford and Eastern Kentucky.
Johnston: Are you planning any visits this summer?
Euton: Right now I don't have any plans.
Johnston: What are some things you are looking for in a college?
Euton: The biggest thing is style of play. I want to go to a place that plays my style of ball.

so judging from your earlier response, i assume your style of basketball is nonathletic, non skilled basketball? hahaha coach cal only plays athletic players. now i know what uk's problem was the last two years. bcg was recruiting, signing, and playing non athletes. hard to compete in the ncaa without those!
This is a highschool kid that thought he was going to play for his dream school.I know he is upset,I would be.I just wish him the best. From everything I have heard,he is a quality young man,and has a bright future. That being said....Go Big Blue!
no need to be rude about the kid. He could play in the right system. He's more of a tall jump-shooter. A high-low offense like Gillispie's is perfect for his game. He could hang out on the elbow and shoot the little j or pass to the big man or the wing.
Cal's style on the other hand is the worst possible system for Euton. Tough luck for a good kid.
Go Cats!
Sounds like he really wanted to play for Kentucky, tough break. Give it to Coach Cal for being honest on his chances of playing. Now he can go some where he can start. Maybe in a year or two playing against the Cats. But wish him Luck , sounds like a good young man.
I hope it gets to a school that will play his style. He seems likea good young man and one that would have been a SCHOLAR and athlete at Kentucky, I don't think we'll see many of them in basketball for a while.
But then again, Mitch might decide Cal doesn't 'fit'. I hope the best for the young man.
Buck.. don't forget about Jon Hood and Daniel Orton. Both signed by Gillispie, both good enough for John Calipari. Don't fool yourself.
He should be able to find the right kind of system in the NAIA.
He is not a div 1 player. He should play at a small school.
