Four East Texas athletes are getting national attention, with recruiting site Rivals.com placing them in their list of the top 150 recruits in the country.
Daingerfield's two-time state champion team is led by linebacker Steve Edmond, an early commit to the University of Texas. Edmond is ranked sixteenth on the current list, and the fifth linebacker.
Trey Metoyer, Whitehouse receiver, has already committed to Oklahoma. Metoyer is ranked as the second-best wide receiver in the country, and the twenty-fourth top athlete overall.
Hallsville's lineman Josh Cochran is also on the list. Cochran is the 132nd ranked player, and the nineteenth offensive lineman. Cochran is also committed to Texas.
Carthage linebacker Kendall Thompson also enters the Top 250 list at number 140. Rivals.com's report on Thompson points out "...although he plays linebacker in high school, there were originally questions about his athleticism and whether he might be moved to defensive end in college. Over the past year he has gotten leaner and improved his quickness. There is no doubt he is a college linebacker now."
Thompson is also an early commit to Texas.
All four East Texas players are four-star recruits, according to Rivals.com.
