Now that the dust has settled after the funeral of five-year-old Shaniya Davis, family members of the little girl have stepped forward to speak of the tragedy. One common thread is disgust for her accused killer, Mario McNeill.
Shaniya's aunt, Carey Lockhart-Davis, who appeared on Monday's CBS's "The Early Show," blasted the alleged killer and lashed out at the justice system that she believes coddles criminals. "We have a lot of people … [who have] lost their jobs, who don't have health care, even children that are in homes don't get three square meals a day. But this man sits with guards protecting him, he's receiving free medical, free meals."
During the interview, Lockhart-Davis stated she was "agitated" with McNeill and that she is appalled at the treatment he is receiving. "It disgusts me. It bothers me a lot. And that's something I just don't understand." She was referencing the fact that millions of law-abiding American citizens do not have health care coverage yet criminals, such as McNeill, are protected by guards and receive full medical coverage.
Shaniya Davis's grandmother, Ann Summers, who is the mother of Antoinette Davis, also spoke ill of her daughter's boyfriend, McNeill. According to CBS, Summers said of the accused killer, "To me, he ain't nothing but a maggot. He's going to get what comes to him."
Summers, however, defended her daughter and Shaniya's mother, Antoinette Davis. "She did not harm her kids. I was there, I should know," she declared. Davis has been charged with human trafficking and child abuse through prostitution.

Way to go Carey Lockheart. I applaud you for being able to express the sentiments of not just good people in USA, but across the globe so succintly; more so when considering your obvious heartbreak.
I take my hat off to you.
Why was he even out on the street? He should have been in jail! I am so disgusted that someone could do this to this beautiful little girl! She reminds me so much of my daughter. It really breaks my heat. My prayers are with Shaniya and her family.
I'd like to know why there aren't any photographs of Mario to be found anywhere on the internet?
Forget it! I know the reason. The media is once again protecting it's little murderous minions. This stops the average idiot from making the obvious connections, that certain groups are committing the overwhelming majority of horrific crime.
.
Why is everyone not including that heinous human of a mother?
A mother is supposed to care for and most important protect her child!!!!! Mothers are not supposed to sell their little girls or boys into prostitution....whatever they both deserve severe punishment. Just to think that little Shaniya suffered makes me me severely ill.
This family needs to look within its own makeup and how THEY failed to protect a sweet young child....then ask us to help look out for our children..but it starts in the home..sorry to sound so rough on them..but hey i know what type on homes my children visit let alone stay with..
PS I keep my hat on thank you...drive up and drop her off at a dump of a house (sewer, nasty inside)not for my child anyway..forgot to send her to school or what!!pretty sad no asked how her school day was if they thought she was going to school...little more to the story than we are hearing I am sure.. Lay blame where it goes that's how Justice for Shaniya will come about..
Better said "Sally" right on point!
To Inconsiderate Sally 4:24pm:
I can understand her frustration. Bradley Lockhart's family took care of her and trusted her mother wholeheartedly to care for Shaniya. I agree with Mr Lockhart, there is nothing he did wrong with allowing Antoinette Davis to partake in Shaniya's life. Everything seemed so amicable in terms of child custody. I doubt ANYONE could have predicted Antoinette Davis' actions. When tragedies like this happen they are almost ALWAYS by surprise - never to be anticipated.
Dear Ann:
Most people dont wake up one day and say hey I think I will have a house not fit to live in and hang out with some felons today..have them over for a sleep over..no Shaniya not going to school today maybe not next week to high to take today..and I dont feel like cleaning up around here today..it didnt happen over night that she went from Mommy of the Year to hanging out with fools and felons and maybe a little drugs
PS Dear Ann You can expect bad things from dope heads and felons...
Trust is earned in my world, how about yours Ann???
Ann Summers: How can you possibly NOT blame your daughter for selling your granddaughter for sex??
carey stop covering for your brother. you will not rest even in ther darkest hours of your life until you tell the truth. no-one cared for that child, not you or the father. this is too dirty for words.
Interesting and sad that so many are blaming Shaniyas dad. There are so many people that fight and argue about parenting/custody time and this man was trying to do things amicably between the two. Do you really think this man thought his daughter would be prostituted by her own mother?? No he probably thought a little girl needs to spend some time with her biological, female, mother, a role he couldnt be. How dare people insinuate this is his fault. Heres another thing thats got me, where did this prostituting thing come from? What evidence is there?they say she did drugs, but theres not arrest history. there was a raid on a house she lived in and yet no one was arrested. they say she smoked pot in the past. how many people that smoke pot sell their children? its pot not crack. Is it at all possible that since this scum Mario was familiar to the home that he did in fact come in and take the baby when people were asleep?we just dont know. I could be wrong but its possible.
Mario is obviously the scum of the earth, taking the innocent and smirking for his mug shot. Too bad this is the last face this little girl had to see on earth. I pray all those involved pay and rot for eternity.
OMG!!!! a role model you must live in the same world and trusting Tom, Dick and Harry who just might be a pack of felons..would you not check up on who is hanging out the house where you drop your child off...plus i say her behavior and friends didnt happen over night..plus she is pregnant by a felon pretty sorry role model i would say..
Got something to say?
