Amazing how many women still do not take to HEART that heart disease is our #1 killer. More women than men have died from heart disease for the past twenty years! This isn’t a new disease. It’s simply that women have finally joined together to be heard.
There are approximately 150 million women in the United States. Breast cancer, lung cancer, diabetes, and stroke are just some of hundreds of illnesses that can change our daily lives. Without our beating hearts, we could not run the 5k for breast cancer or participate in the other causes we believe strongly in.
There isn’t a magazine the past few months that doesn’t include one or two articles about women’s heart disease. In reading through the articles hands down the message we read is to exercise. Exercise helps every single area of our body, mind and soul. Exercise helps if you are suffering from arthritis, depression, recovering from breast cancer surgery and certainly to control or prevent heart disease.
The hard part is to find a location where you can add daily exercise to your life. Once you’ve considered finding a facility that doesn’t make you feel out of place. Old. Fat. Out of Shape. Old (wrote that already) or the feeling that you are in a fish bowl, because wherever you look there are sharks. A gym that could become not only a place to work out, but take a sauna, go in a whirlpool and shower with everything needed provided for you?
Women I interviewed felt that was too much to hope for?

Straight from the MAYO CLINIC: Exercise for 30 minutes on most days of the week.
Getting some regular, daily exercise can reduce your risk of fatal heart disease. And when you combine physical activity with other lifestyle measures, such as maintaining a healthy weight, the payoff is even greater.
Physical activity helps you control your weight and can reduce your chances of developing other conditions that may put a strain on your heart, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. It also reduces stress, which may be a factor in heart disease.
Try getting at least 30 to 60 minutes of moderately intense physical activity most days of the week. However, even shorter amounts of exercise offer heart benefits, so if you can't meet those guidelines, don't give up. You can even break up your workout time into 10-minute sessions.
And remember that activities such as gardening, housekeeping, taking the stairs and walking the dog all count toward your total. You don't have to exercise strenuously to achieve benefits, but you can see bigger benefits by increasing the intensity, duration and frequency of your workouts.
