As you get dressed for the day put on a little something red. Friday, February 5th is National Wear Red Day, for heart disease awareness. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and men. The American Heart Association (AHA) is sponsoring “Go Red For Women” to especially support women when it comes to heart disease.
All around the Atlanta area people will be sporting the color red. And not just in Atlanta, but around the nation special events are being held to support the cause.
Macy’s department stores are giving shoppers who wear red a 20-percent discount on their purchase up through February 7th. Also if you shop at Macys.com you can get a 10-percent discount by putting the code: WEARRED.
The “Go Red For Women” campaign is hosting a variety of events at GoRedForWomen.com. And people are encouraged to share stories about how to become a “Better U.” Atlanta resident 41-year-old, Joshilyn shares how she is becoming “better” by quitting smoking and striving for a healthier diet.
Some steps you can take to be a “Better U” include:
Being active for at least 2-and-a-half hours a week.
Include activities that raise your breathing and heart rates and that strengthen your muscles.
Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.
Limit foods and drinks high in calories, sugar, salt, fat, and alcohol content.
Be smoke-free and avoid second hand smokers.
