Seven healthy eateries in Berkeley

Tara's is one of the seven healthy eateries in Berkeley
   that made this list.

Heading to Berkeley? Might as well eat healthy. Here are seven great healthy eateries:

Razan Organic Kitchen

10 years ago restaurants that served organic vegetarian food were very rare. Although there were one or two, it seemed that there was a great need for cutting edge healthy restaurants in this nutritionally progressive area. Well, it seems that the healthy restaurant trend has finally caught on.

This is a small cozy and homey restaurant with only a few tables, so don’t expect any fancy decor. What you should expect is delicious, healthy, organic food. Specializing in wraps and burritos, they also have a nice selection of combo plates. They have a nice selection of organic sodas and freshly squeezed organic juices or smoothies. The prices aren’t cheap but they are very reasonable for tasty organic food.

Herbivore

This restaurant is a vegan’s dream. With a wonderful selection of different items, your taste buds will not be bored. Many people like this restaurant for different reasons. Obviously vegans appreciate that all of the food is vegan but people who are lactose intolerant will also appreciate the lack of dairy. People who are trying to reduce their cholesterol will also enjoy dining here from time to time because none of the food contains cholesterol.

Café Gratitude

This restaurant is definitely not for everyone. As a matter of fact people usually either love it or hate it. Some people love the friendly and thoughtful ambiance and others are a bit taken back when the server asks them, “What are you grateful for?” This cutting edge leader in environmental responsibility serves locally grown food which is vegan, organic and usually raw. The food is tasty, fresh, vibrant and creatively prepared. You will pay a bit more for this healthy and responsible food but it is definitely worth a try.

Raw Energy

This little hole in the wall juice bar has been around for a while now and has gathered a loyal following. As the name suggests, they use only fresh organic raw ingredients for their juices and smoothies. They don’t water down the juices or use ice as a filler for their smoothies, which means that you get a good value. If you need a healthy and nutritious pick-me-up then this is a great place to get a smoothie.
