One toasted English muffin with a slice of American cheese and two eggs, apple slices, coffee or tea. Total 370 calories.

Easy 400 calorie lunches:

One cup of stock based soup or 1/2 cup cream based soup with a 1/2 sandwich (see sandwich example below.) Total of 365 calories.

Two slices 45 calorie whole wheat toast, 2 teaspoons regular mayonnaise 2 ounces deli style turkey and ham, topped with a one ounce slice of swiss or cheddar cheese and lettuce, tomato, and pickles. One 100 calorie pack of chips or crackers, and an apple. Total of 410 calories.

One package flavored yogurt, one ounce mixed nuts, a banana, and two cheese sticks. Total of 420 calories.

Easy 400 calorie dinners:

One cup Dreamfield's spaghetti topped with 1/4 cup of with an easy to make authentic Italian spaghetti sauce, get the recipe, one whole wheat dinner roll with a teaspoon of butter, dinner salad with light dressing, and a 1/2 cup fruit salad. Total of 425 calories (depending on brand of dressing.)

One 4 ounce lean sirloin steak grilled to desired doneness, one small baked potato topped with a teaspoon of butter, a tablespoon of sour cream and chives, 1/4 cups honey glazed carrots, a dinner salad with 2 tablespoons light salad dressing, and berries for dessert. Total of 430 calories (depending on brand of dressing.)

Four ounces lean ham steak, 1/2 cup sweet potatoes sweetened with Splenda or other artificial sweetener, 1/2 cup green beans with one teaspoon of butter, one whole wheat dinner roll with 1 teaspoon butter. Total 415 calories.

Snacks under 400 calories:

Two cheese sticks and an apple, 190 calories.

One yogurt and 1 ounce of nuts, 210 calories.

One bag of 100 calorie popcorn sprinkled with a tablespoon of light caramel sauce, 150 calories.

One banana mixed with 1/4 cup mixed berries and no calorie sweetener, 140 calories.

Just remember that if you're unsure of a portion size or serving amount, you can measure the first few times. Soon you'll learn to eyeball the proper portion. Eating too much of a good thing will backfire and undo your diet success.
