Looking to have fun and support a good cause? Next week (March 21 - 27) marks World Water Week, which is a national event meant to raise awareness of the world water crisis and increase funds to help the nearly 1 billion people who do not have regular access to clean water. Customers who dine in one of the thousands of participating restaurants in the United States will be asked to donate an additional dollar for the tap water that one would normally receive for free.

More than 60 restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area will be participating and there will be more than 120 events held nationally to commemorate World Water Week. In Washington, D.C., the UNICEF Tap Project will hold its fundraiser event at Local 16 Restaurant on Saturday, March 20. Advance tickets are $25 which includes food, music and a chance to win raffle prizes such as gift certificates to local restaurants and sports memorabilia.

All funds raised will support UNICEF's Tap Project which funds water, sanitation and hygiene programs and will help to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world, including those in Togo, Central African Republic, Vietnam, Guatemala and Haiti.

Here are the details:

  • Where: Local 16 (1602 U Street NW)
  • What: Fundraiser for UNICEF Tap Project
  • When: 6:00pm - 9:00pm Saturday, March 20

Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. A $25 ticket will give a child more than 2.5 years of clean water. You can buy your tickets online as well.

Thousands of restaurants across the country will participate in the UNICEF Tap Project during World Water Week 2010. Click here to find a restaurant near you.

A student organization that I am involved worked with UNICEF and their Tap Project to developed this website to help raise awareness for the need of clean water in third world countries, and as well help drive donations through rather fun and unique social media tactics.

It begs to be asked, who is more charitable?
