Food, Inc., opens in Philadelphia

Food, Inc., which gives consumers a reality check on the origins of what's become a corporate food supply, is now showing in Philadelphia. In this movie, filmmaker Robert Kenner brings to life a mechanized food chain that is often programmed for profit ahead of health, environmental and occupational hazards over safety and puts the livelihood of the American farmer in peril.

And all of this is supported by government regulatory agencies, the USDA and FDA – the various checks and balances originally designed to protect consumers. As Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation and co-producer of the film explains in an interview with Stephen Colbert, certain food companies do not want the public seeing how their "bizarre science-fiction" like operations.

But with ignorance being bliss only for so long, it's now time to arm yourself with the information that can improve your health, the environment and the rights of animals and the American worker. All in one bite.
