Understanding your metabolism

Your metabolism is the key to effective, long term body fat reduction. Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories to sustain itself. The higher your metabolism, the more effective your body is at burning calories even while you are sleeping. The ways to increase your metabolism, are cardio exercise, strength training exercise and eating, and that’s why cutting calories can actually cause your metabolism to get slower. Dieting will actually cause your body to go into a survival mode, causing the body to store more fat. You need to have a reasonable calorie intake, and there is no substitute for digesting good fresh, natural produce and lean protein to burn calories.

Cardio activity has the effect of burning calories while you are training, but you need need to change your cardio training regularly to continue burning the same amount of calories, because your body becomes more efficient at not expending as much energy for the same quantity of work. Too much cardio training is catabolic in nature, and it actually breaks down muscle mass. Strength or resistance training is the most effective way to build lean muscle mass.

Muscle is the most metabolically active tissue in your body, so increasing the amount of muscle mass in your body substantially increases your body's abilities to burn body fat. A strength or resistance training program is the best way to build muscle and kickstart your metabolism.
