Swine Flu Vaccine Side Effects: What are the dangers of H1N1 vaccine?

Even after a recently released report about the widespread nature of H1N1, many individuals worry about the swine flu vaccine side effects.

Is this fear justified? Or are the dangers of the H1N1 swine flu vaccine the same as the standard flu vaccine?

What are the H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Side Effects?

Here are the most common side effects of the H1N1 vaccination:

  • Redness and swelling at the injection site
  • Mild fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Fatigue

While these vaccination side effects can be bothersome, they typically subside within two days and over the counter medication can help alleviate common side effects.

What are the dangers of the H1N1 swine flu vaccine?

Despite all the media hoopla, the fact is that there has been no evidence proving that the swine flu vaccination is any more or less dangerous than the standard flu vaccine.

One of the most frequent worries about possible H1N1 swine flu vaccination side effects is the mercury. Trace amounts of mercury exist in swine flu vaccines. Mercury is used as a preservative in the vaccination.

Another concern is coming down with Guillain-Barre syndrome; however, this fear may be unjustified, as there have only been six confirmed cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome due to the swine flu vaccination.

The final fear is that of fatality. Again, no valid reports have proven that the swine flu vaccine had anything to do with an individual's death after receiving the H1N1 swine flu vaccination.

The proper standard would be to prove that a vaccine is safe before using en masse on the population, not to say there is no proof it is not safe. This can only be accomplished though long term trials that have not been conducted. This is the same repetetive propaganda being put by every other major media outlet. You suck.

I have lupus and asked my doctor if it was safe for me to get this vaccine H1N1 ,,,I was told shouldn't be any issues . Well I have been terribly sick! This triggered all kinds of symptoms from flu like symptoms to bowel issues and I am still sick as a dog almost a week later. They should be telling people more in the media about the mercury in this vaccine,,,,,some individuals are quit sensitive to this. I am totally disgusted and I don't see how I could be any sicker from the actual virus. You decide for yourself ,,,,,but don't believe any doctors office that tells you ,,,,"You shouldn't get sick from this" If I had to do over I certainly would NOT have taken this vaccine!

i think maybe patty had a touch of a different flu not covered by the h1n1 or flu vaccine after all they only cover certain strains of the flu. if you think you are sick from it maybe some drs advice is necessary. my son received his shot today and my mother received hers a couple weeks ago. neither are showing any side effects besides a achey arm. i would rather have my son have it then take the chance he dies from contracting the flu. as far as not testing it i have a feeling they knew about swine flu for a while probly way before the public has and im sure already had a vaccine in the works

My wife's cousin just got the vaccine and is now fighting for his life with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. I'm not taking unproven drugs from overseas. Should we not question when a government starts "mandating" vaccinations.?

Problem is, some people are going to blame the vaccine for whatever happen after they receive it reguardless of what is the actual cause. The parents of the 14 year old who got gillain barre 18 hours after receiving the vaccine were sure it was from the vaccine but how can it be? Many doctors have spoken and also find that hard to beleive since 18 hours is a too short time to develop antibody from the shot.
Many propoe don't realize it but any illness or cold can lead to this a few weeks later.

IT'S THE SAME. Same shot as the seasonal flu shot. Every year they put new strains in the flu shot. This is just a different strain of flu, and it would have gone right in there with the seasonal shot if they had found it a few months earlier. Some people will have a reaction to the flu shot, but that's always true. It's not untested, it's not rushed (the trials were to verify how much 'active ingredient' needed to be in it, since we don't have a base immunity), and we're not allowing anything that we didn't allow before (like no adjuvants from Europe). Calm down.

As a front line medical staff I had swine flu vaccine yesterday. Few hours later I started developing muscle aches and then shivers with fever. I have to call sick from work, which I did not want at all. Personally I did not have a good experience with the vaccination and believe it wasnt worth while.

If you are producing symtems of the flu, you are contageous to others. That is why we are having this strain in pandemic numbers. Does anyone remember when they pulled the live polio vaccine. That is because people were getting polio. The risks far outway the benefits. You still get sick. They say oh well you were exposed to it before you had the shot. Don't think so!!!

    Rob S,

Would you mind explaining how we're supposed to follow your "proper standard" by doing long term trials of flu vaccines to establish safety when the flu is mutating all the time and it takes several months to manufacture vaccine in quantity? It wouldn't be much use producing a safe vaccine if we can't be sure it's safe until after the flu season we design it for is over.

Everyone wants a guarentee in life. All medicine has potential side effects. Even drinking water has had it's share of issues in the past. The chance of a reaction to the vaccine is 1 in a million and the chance of dying from H1N1 is one in 100. Make your own choice.

  • Bell's Palsy Side Effect 2 years ago
    Report Abuse

I had the H1N1 nasal vaccine about a week and a half ago. I was feeling fine the first couple of days, but after 3 days of the vaccine I had the following side effects: intense headaches at the lower back of my head and vomiting. 5 days later I noticed that my eyes were increasingly watery causing my vision to get blurred. On the 9th day of my vaccine, my headache lessen, but I experienced numbness on the lower right part of my mouth and my left eye was closing frequently and slowly when I blink. I didn’t realize that I had a problem until the end of the day when I looked into the mirror and tried to smile. I had the hardest time smiling since my lower right lip was numb and not functioning properly. I had an uneven and unnatural smile. My right eye has a hard time closing completely which is causing dryness, irritation, and watery eyes. I cannot even open my left eye while at the same time closing my right eye which I could previously do with ease. I had Bell's Palsy side effect.

The vaccine has not been out on the market long enought to truly test the long term effects. Half of the ingredients have not even been approved by the FDA because it was so rushed. When you're dealing with chemicals such as Thiomersal (mercury derivative), Fermaldahyde, Squalene adjuvant, and many more you need to take the time to make sure this vaccine is not dangerous. The FDA even said "Children are 27 times more likely to develop autism with exposure to mercury containing vaccines." The H1N1 vaccine does have Mercury. It's just the flu, it's not worth putting that into your body.

I'm also feeling a bit feverish. I still think it's worth it because what I'm feeling will soon pass and it's better than getting the full blown flu.

For the folks who took the nasal form. You got sick because it is a 'live' virus. For the ones getting the shot, you should read the insert. Mercury, Aluminum, ... Why would you put that in your body?
I have been to a couple sites where pregnant women have lost thier babies , and not just a handful. Its very sad. Within the vaccine insert itself, it states that they have no idea what it could do to the baby.
This year is unique in that the pharma companies have zero accountability. We know Baxter infected people with HIV in plasma some years ago, and this year infected the vax material with bird flu. oops... Cmon guys, do your research before you trust you health to companies like this. I know they are doing a big campaign to get you to take this vaccine, but that doesnt mean you should blindly follow. If people protest enough, they will have to clean these things out of vaccines or they wont be selling. They can take mercury out.. if we insist.

My husband who is a diabetic had his H1N1 shot on 12/7/09 and except for a sore arm he is absolutely fine. He had no other side effects at all. I took both my sons for their H1N1 shots on 12/8/09 (my 4 yr old for his first dose and my 1 yr old for his second dose) and both are absolutely fine. My 4 yr says his arm hurts a bit, but has had no other side effects. And, my 1 yr old didn't have any side effects during his first dose or second dose. I haven't received my shot yet because it is not available to the general public here yet, but when it is I will be getting myself vaccinated as well. I just wanted to post this because not everyone who gets the vaccine has a bad reaction. In fact, the number of people who have a bad reaction is very small. It just seems like a lot of people have one because human nature is to complain or post somthing only when something bad happens so you really don't hear about the good experiences.
